PH was a critical thinker and his insights and observations led to healthy debate and discussion. His opinions and how he expressed them were evidence of his sharp intellect and dramatic flair. He was also known for his quick wit and repartee. He was passionate about history and politics. Like many of his peers, he involved himself in the cultural life of la Francophonie. He had a love and appreciation for music which he shared with his wife, Marie. Music played an important part of their life together from the time they spent with the organization Mélo-Mani, singing with various choirs, and in any social gathering where there was a piano and an audience. His rendition of Old Man River will be remembered by many. His children were beneficiaries of this love for music. He was very proud to see and hear their accomplishments. He enjoyed sports particularly baseball, hockey, and golf. He loved games of all sorts especially card games. He had a gift for adapting any game to include everyone in the room from two to 30 people: One more, one less - what difference does it make? Known to his grandchildren as Pépère, this passion for games was his way of getting to know them.
