Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD DAVID MACDONALD With family by his side, Don MacDonald passed away peacefully on May 6, 2011 at the Portage General hospital at the age of 71 years. He was predeceased by his parents Hector and Adeline MacDonald; one brother Jim MacDonald; brother-in-law Lorne Anderson; sister-in-law Enid MacDonald; father and mother-in-law Roy and Lil Glover; brothers-in-law Grant and Gary MacDonald and sister-in-law Eileen MacDonald. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years Bev; one son Scott (Kelli) and grandchildren Brennen (Val), Elyssa (Brian) and Chase (Mikaile); Kelli's children Avery and Liam. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters Raymond, Larry (Pat), Carolynne (Murray), Gordon (Dayle), Jeanette (Ed), Allan (Gerri), Edwin and Beverly as well as brothers-in-law Duane (Billie). Don was born in the R.M of North Cypress on April 20, 1940. Don's greatest pleasures were times spent with his family and special friends. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he would have done anything with them or for them. He very much enjoyed spending time at the farm and helping his son Scott, wherever possible. He loved the outdoors and his love and caring of animals was evident throughout the course of his life. Don began his working career at an early age and developed a good work ethic. He worked for various construction companies in Winnipeg for several years and in 1966 purchased his own welding and machine shop in MacGregor. His next venture began in 1971 when he established his own contracting business, Don's Rentals Ltd. He owned and operated his business for 40 years until this spring when poor health made this no longer possible. His most challenging and enjoyable work during these years was building bridges for various municipalities in Southern Manitoba. Don had a great sense of humour and always tried to make the best of the cards he was dealt. He always viewed the cup as half full rather than half empty. He loved hunting and dip net fishing as well as relaxing with a book or watching Nascar races, curling and hockey on TV. Our family is forever grateful to so many people in the medical community in Winnipeg over the many years Don experienced serious health issues. Special thanks to Dr. Sheila Domke, Dr. R. Hamedani, to the Heart Failure Clinic at St. Boniface Hospital and to the staff on the Medical Ward at Portage General Hospital all of whom provided exceptional care, concern and compassion. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the EMC Church in MacGregor with Sandra Rex officiating. A private family interment service will take place. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to The Heart Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Box 6, Donald St, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6, to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 9Z9 or to a charity of one's choice.
