Born: Oct 24, 1922
Date of Passing: May 05, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBASIL ELWOOD HALL October 24, 1922 - May 5, 2011 With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of our father, Basil Elwood Hall on May 5, 2011. Left to cherish his memory are his children: son Russell Dale Hall and his wife Donna Hall; daughter Sherri Lynn Hall Cuillerier and husband Benoit along with his two grandsons, David and Brian Cuillerier, and daughter Adele Rush. Basil was predeceased by his wife Audrey, his father John Hall and mother Molly. Basil was born in Winnipeg, MB on October 24, 1922 and grew up on Winchester Street in St. James and lived there until after his retirement and the passing of his wife Audrey. Basil served in the Second World War as a F/O and navigator on a Beaufort. He worked his entire career as a Draftsman at Cowin Steel in Winnipeg, an indication of his loyalty and devotion to a task. Basil spent much of his retirement at the Aviation Museum building a replica of the Canadian Vickers Vedette boat plane which took 22 years to build from start to finish. He was an amazing father who supported all of his children in whatever endeavour they chose to take on - unconditionally. It was always his nature and his pleasure to give to others with no expectation of anything in return. He never missed an opportunity to show his appreciation to the people around him. He taught his children never to be afraid of challenges and to not fear failure as long as they gave it their best effort, because fear will limit your successes. He was a strong man with determination and a heart of gold. We invite you to join us in a Celebration of Basil's life on Friday, May 13 at 7:00 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Deer Lodge Hospital for the care and kindness they showed our father throughout his stay. I want to thank everyone for the kind words of my Father. I think about him all the time and I am so grateful he met and was a part of my 2 son's lives... they were the apple of his eye <3 I only saw this site today when I was googling in to find the video of our family on the day of the funeral.... You may enjoy it. It has many relatives and friends in it. I am glad he touched so many people's lives and his family apologizes for not being able to reach every one that he did touch... he knows :) <3 Love Sherri Lynn xxxooo - Posted by: Sherri Lynn Hall (Daughter) on: Jun 15, 2014

Russ, Adele, & Sherri, our deepest sympathy on the passing of your dear Dad. We knew something was amiss when we didn't hear from Bas the Christmas prior to his passing. I happened to come across his obituary yesterday and our whole family was saddened. Brian affectionately called your parents "Missy Hall" and "Mr. Bas". Basil always let us know what he was up to and how all of you were doing. We all have such wonderful memories of living on Winchester and having the pleasure of knowing all of you. Our Christmas dessert is still the Pineapple Delight, which your parents introduced us to, and therefore the Hall name always comes up. We will all miss Bas, he was a very unique and wonderful man. Love, Shirley, Gerry, Kelly & Brian. - Posted by: Shirley & Gerry Sawchyn (Friends ) on: Jan 31, 2012

Uncle Basil was our favorite uncle and he shall never be forgotten in our home. He has been the main point of some special memories here. We loved all his visits with us. Sorry to hear that he had passed so long along. Would have loved to show our respect. Such a wonderful man. Reg & Margie Beeston - Posted by: Reg & Margie Beeston (nephew) on: Jan 07, 2012
