JOHN RICHARD ROBERTS 1928 - 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John (Jack) Richard Roberts on May 11th at age 83. Jack passed away peacefully at Beacon Hill Lodge after struggling courageously with declining health until illness finally took him from us. He leaves to mourn his passing: Marilynn his beloved wife of 57 years and children David (Audrey), James (Vickie) and Cheryl (Wayne). He has nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren all of whom he cherished. Jack was born and raised in Winnipeg where he resided most of his life. He attended Earl Grey Elementary and Kelvin High School where he excelled at track and field, as well as baseball. Jack was predeceased by parents Cecil and Barbara and two older brothers David and Bruce. Jack was a 1955 graduate of Architecture at the University of Manitoba. He enjoyed a lengthy career as an architect, primarily with MCM Partners. During his adult life he was actively involved at Winakwa Community Club and St. Bartholomew Anglican Church. He helped build several cottages at the former Anglican Island Camp and also built a retirement cottage for Marilynn and the family to enjoy. He loved carpentry and built woodworking projects of all sorts much to the delight of us all. In fact Jack was a Jack of all Trades . There wasn't much he was afraid to try or learn about. He was always teaching us, coaching us, or mentoring somebody. He always gave freely of his time and talent. He also loved to travel and was fortunate to see much of Canada and parts of the United States. Jack loved nature and the outdoors. In his younger years he took his family camping, canoeing and fishing, always mindful of our environment much before it became fashionable to be eco-friendly . We were blessed to have Jack as a husband and father you could always count on no matter what. The family wishes to thank all our friends and relatives who have supported us through this very difficult time. A memorial service will take place on Monday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, 881 Autumnwood Drive. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Alzheimer Society, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. Condolences may be sent to condolences@nbardal.mb.ca.
