KATHRYN MEDA TOSHACK (nee MCLEAN) April 20, 1925 - May 7, 2011 Kathryn Meda Toshack was predeceased by her parents Gylen and Gracie McLean, sister Ann Melone of Tulsa, OK and husband of 45 years, Frederick William (Bill) Toshack. Meda was born in 1925 and raised in the town of Pilot Mound, Manitoba. While growing up, she participated in many town fairs as a Highland Dancer. Meda also enjoyed playing the piano, trumpet and singing. She also loved figure skating and had great memories of skating at the Winnipeg Winter Club when she moved to Winnipeg. Meda attended Rupertsland, and then completed her music teacher's certificate. She also attended the Banff School of Fine Arts one summer for piano and had fond memories of her time spent there. She went on to teach piano at the Birks Building for a number of years and then taught piano from her home while raising four children. Meda then went on to teach piano at St. John's Ravenscourt for about 15 years. All in all, she taught many students for a total of 50 years. Meda loved spending time with her family at the summer cottage she and Bill built at West Hawk Lake. For more than 50 years, she was instrumental in creating a special place where a sense of family was strengthened and many unforgettable memories made. Meda was a huge supporter of her children's and grandchildren's many endeavours including speed skating, hockey, waterskiing, windsurfing, curling, cross country running, synchronized swimming, tae kwon do, dance, soccer, softball, piano, saxophone, choir, and band. Meda spent many years volunteering at Sargent Park Speed Skating Oval as the announcer at speed skating meets. She drove countless times to hockey rinks and the speed skating oval and was our #1 fan. Meda loved her bridge club and played with the same group of women for 60 years and also with her husband Bill and neighbours at West Hawk Lake and friends in Winnipeg. Mom will be forever missed by her children Kathy (Bob) Jenion, Gyl (Leslie) Toshack, Lori (Jeff) Derraugh, and Fred (Tina) Toshack, and by her grandchildren Coryn Jenion and Kristy (Paul) McDonald, Kally Toshack (Ryan St. Laurent and great-grandson Ryder), Tyler, Reece, Elizabeth and Connor Derraugh, and Shannon and Michelle Toshack. She also leaves to mourn her sister Jeanne Corbridge of Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6, or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at the lake this summer.
