IVY OWCHAR Peacefully with her family and friends by her side, Ivy Owchar (Haywahe) passed away at the Gimli Community Health Centre on May 15, 2011 at the age of 78 years. She was predeceased by her husband Metro whom she missed so dearly, her little Tuffy , and close friend, Jessie Pelletier-Fontaine. Left to cherish her loving memory is her son, Gordie; sister-in-law Helen (Cecil) Hopko and numerous nieces and nephews and her very special friends, Donna and Don Winstone of Winnipeg Beach. Ivy was born on Carry the Kettle First Nation, SK and came to MB with her late husband Metro and later built their home in Winnipeg Beach. She was a strong believer in her faith. Gardening was her forte and was proud of winning an award from the town of Winnipeg Beach for her yard. Ivy was known as a very kind and caring person, her hospitality and her elaborate spread of meals for those who visited her home. She and her late husband, Metro fostered numerous First Nations/Metis children for many years while living in Winnipeg during the 1970s and 80s and later received an award for exceptional care by Child and Family Services. She often spoke fondly of the children that she cared for and how willing she was to accept more when they were in need of a safe and loving home. A heartfelt thank you to Don and Donna Winstone for their extraordinary care and compassion they provided to Ivy and Gordie over the length of her illness. The family would like to thank the Gimli Community Health Centre and Home Care staff for their care and kindness. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church in downtown Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba. A private family interment of ashes will take place following the service. Lunch with family and friends will follow. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
