MARNI MILES (MARY MARJORIE GULSTON) 1928 - 2011 Surrounded by the love of the family that she cherished dearly, Marni Miles passed away on May 14, 2011 at 82 years of age. She was born at home on August 11, 1928, in Toronto. Marni leaves to celebrate her life children Gordon (Jennifer) Miles, Mark Miles, Debbi Miles (Wally Kimpton), Cathi (Vince) Cerasani, and Kathy Missimer-Miles; grandchildren Jayne and Thomas Miles, Matthew and Meghan Miles, Lia, Bradley, and Cameron Cerasani, and in Ontario, sister Joan (Hugh) Lloyd, nephews and nieces. Marni was predeceased by her brother Charles Gulston in August 2010. Marni was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, church member, teacher, and friend. She spent the early years of marriage raising her children and made significant contributions as a leader for Canadian Girls in Training (CGIT), and as an elder and member of various committees at First Presbyterian Church, Winnipeg. In her later years she found her church home at Windsor Park United where she gave and received much nurturing and care. In her career as a classroom teacher Marni worked at Sargent Park Junior High, Ecole Sacre Coeur, and Luxton Schools. Following her retirement in 1993, Marni dedicated time to friends, her church, the St. Agnes Guild, the Rendezvous Club at Riverview Health Centre, and the Portage La Prairie Library while taking great joy in reading, crossword puzzles, gardening and bird watching. She delighted in the opportunity to travel with family and friends, and the diverse group of attendees at her 80th birthday celebration was an indication of the broad span of her interests. However, Gram's greatest love was supporting the activities of her grandchildren with her little red Honda Civic carrying her (and often them!) to rinks for figure skating or hockey or lacrosse, football fields, soccer pitches, music lessons, basketball courts, recitals, concerts, and plays - often several in one day! She loved her weekly visits to Portage la Prairie and was a proud and faithful supporter of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and the Manitoba Theatre Centre. Marni took great joy in family, friends, and her faith, all of which helped her meet and overcome significant challenges through the years. We are grateful to the friends who called her, met her for lunch, shared precious experiences, and remembered her in their prayers. As various health challenges arrived following a diagnosis of multiple myeloma in April of 2009, we give special thanks for the care that she received in various health facilities from all the nurses, health care aides, and doctors. Your kindness to Mom and the family will not be forgotten. A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood, corner of Cottonwood and Autumnwood, Winnipeg. Per her request, the Windsor Park United Church Memorial Garden will be her final resting place. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or to CancerCare Manitoba. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
