ROBERT (BOB) FRANK MOCK February 10, 1925 - May 13, 2011 Surrounded by the love of his family, Robert Mock passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 86 years. Left to cherish Robert's memory is his loving wife, Hilda of 54 years of marriage, devoted daughters Connie (Richard) Pope and Corinne Mock; cherished granddaughters Courtney (Corey Chambers) and Melissa Pope, along with grandson Andreas (mother Marianne); as well as by brother-in-law Helmut (Rosemarie) Lachstaedter; numerous nephews and nieces in Europe and his special furry friends Zack and Oliver. He was predeceased by his parents Josef and Maria; brothers Johann and Josef (Sepp); and was devastated in 2009 by the loss of his adored son, Thomas. Robert married Hilda in 1956 and immigrated to Canada on December 13, 1957. They settled in Winnipeg where they worked hard to make a loving home for their three children. He worked for Zeiss in West Germany and Winnipeg Pattern and Model Works for 28 years until his retirement in 1990. In Germany, he was responsible for designing the patterns for modern day telescopes and microscopes still currently in use in hospitals. At Winnipeg Pattern and Model Works, Robert designed patterns for numerous bus parts used by Winnipeg Transit and patterns for golf clubs designed for Callaway, among his list of many projects over the years. He was well liked by his colleagues and greatly respected for his technical abilities which were also enormously appreciated by his family when it came to the many family projects he was recruited for. Robert always demonstrated patience and humour as he tried, in vain, to educate his helpers (aka-Richard and Tom) but we always knew the project would succeed due to his efforts and perseverance. He was in all ways, a master craftsman. As a devoted and loving husband, father and Opa, Robert took great delight in the accomplishments of his children and grand-children. He always had time to listen and was never short of advice, praise or encouragement. He was an avid reader and a connoisseur of classical music, good whiskey and strong beer. Robert always had a story to tell and loved family gatherings. He truly enjoyed a good party with lots of laughter, food and drinks. Robert was greatly looking forward to the upcoming marriage of his granddaughter Courtney to Corey. We are all devastated by this untimely loss and will miss and remember him forever. We know that he has been joyously reunited with both Tom and his dear friend Karl Pawlik whom he missed greatly. We also know that his furry friend Baron will be patiently sitting at his feet while Charlie will be jumping in his arms in order to get Opa's attention. On Friday, May 27, 2011 a Celebration of Robert's Life will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Niakwa Golf and Country Club, 620 Niakwa Road, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T OR3. Down these mean streets a man must go, who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. He is the hero, he is everything .
