Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS ERNEST ANDERSON Suddenly, but peacefully, on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Grace Hospital, our husband and father went to be with The Lord. Tom was born on February 19, 1927 in Prince Albert, SK to William and Clara Anderson. He began his career at the Bank of Commerce in 1945 and worked in several branches in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba until 1951. From there he went to Western Grocers and Westfair Foods, retiring in 1986. In 1951 he married his sweetheart and love, Alene. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this August. Tom enjoyed life and people, and gave back to his community in so many ways. He coached Little League, was a Cub leader, played with the Seniors slow pitch, golfed at Breezy Bend, volunteered at the Eastern Star Chalet and was Treasurer and Greeter at Charleswood United Church for many years. For 23 years, he and Alene enjoyed spending their winter months in Portugal. The summer months were spent enjoying their backyard - Tom could spend hours puttering out there. The Goldeyes' baseball games and Rainbow Stage performances with picnics in the park were also summer highlights. Tom and Alene were also avid fans of the Gilbert and Sullivan concerts, having Poobah on their license plate. Tom was a gentle, kind and wise man. Although he had many interests and many friends, it was his family that was his true pride and joy - and greatest source of enjoyment. His love was unconditional. He was always doing some little nicety for someone. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Alene; son Bruce (Janet); daughters Kathryn and Karyn (Murray), Cindy George; grandchildren David, Karyn, Bill (Kristy), Tom, Amanda, Kylie, Ryan; great-grandchildren Ellie and Shae; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and June Brychka, and nieces and nephews Jan (Roy) Moe, Mary Brychka (Bob Antonchuk), and Jim Brychka. Tom's family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Grace Hospital staff for their care and compassion in our hour of need. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made to Charleswood United Church, the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Winnipeg or to a charity of one's choice.
