JOHN (JACK) MCKAY With deepest sorrow we announce the passing of John Jack Edward McKay on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Carman Memorial Hospital. Jack was born in Manitou, MB on November 29, 1922 to John and Mae McKay. He was raised and educated in Manitou where he enjoyed and excelled in sports. He is predeceased by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. In 1940, at 17 years of age, he enlisted in the Canadian Army and served overseas during the Second World War. He fought in Sicily, Italy and Holland and retired from the forces in 1945. Post war, Jack met the love of his life, Lillian. They were married on August 3, 1946 and raised five beautiful children together. Jack enrolled in Barber School and upon graduating worked in Winnipeg and later relocated to Carman to start the Carman Barber Shop and Beauty Parlor. In his free time he was an avid and accomplished bowler but also loved the opportunity to coach his children. His other free time activity found him on the golf course and it quickly became another favourite pastime. Jack retired in 1984 at 62 years of age and continued to enjoy his favourite sports and family time. He leaves to mourn, his beloved wife of 64 years, Lillian, his sons Jack (Linda), Barry (Janice) as well as his daughters Carol Labelle (Dave), Cyndie Lynne Sutherland (Ernie) and Sherri-Lee Unger (Felix). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him and now is reunited with his family and his beloved dog Benji. The Family would like to thank the Carman Hospital and Home Care Staff. A private family service is being held at Greenwood Cemetery on Monday, May 23, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Carman Hospital Palliative Care, Box 610, Carman, MB R0G 0J0. Doyle's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. www.doylesfuneralchapel.com
