Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE WASILKA 1926 - 2010 It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden but peaceful passing of Sophie (Baba ) Wasilka on December 30, 2010 at the Morley House Personal Care Home in Shoal Lake, MB. Left to cherish her memory are brothers: Leslie, Donny and Andy (Gordon) Bordush and sister Olga Kozak; grandchildren: Dianne Slack (Tim), Daryle Duka, Kimberly Frost, Jeffrey Kozak (Kimberley Burton), Sean Kozak and Ashley Kozak; great-grandchildren: Brandon, Travis, Mason, Kaden, Kamryn, Sydni and Tyler and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husbands: Nicholas Kozak and Maurice Wasilka, both her children: Frances Johannson and William Kozak; brothers: George, Alex and William and her sister Minnie. Sophie was born in Komarno, MB on November 27, 1926 to parents Nettie and George Bordush. She spent most of her life farming in Gypsumville, MB and Oakburn, MB. She loved her farming life very much. Her second love was as a nurses aide. She had worked at a number of hospitals in Winnipeg and then at the Morley House in Shoal Lake where she retired from. It was only fitting that she spent her last years as a resident in the place she was happiest and loved so much. While at the Morley House and up until her passing, she was very active sitting on the resident's board, helping with the laundry and participated daily in all activities. She remained young at heart right up until the end. She will lovingly be remembered for her awesome cooking, cribbage games, knitting, her love of Ukrainian music and dance, her wonderful vegetable and flower gardens, but most of all for her incredible unconditional love that we were all lucky to have had. We have all been blessed with the gift of wonderful memories that we will continue to share. A small service was held in Shoal Lake on January 5, 2011 but due to Manitoba's true to form inclement winter weather a formal service was delayed until spring, her favourite time of year. A formal memorial service is being held on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Olha, MB. Lunch will follow immediately after the service at the Olha Community Hall. For further information or directions please contact Rae's Funeral Home in Shoal Lake, MB at 204-759-2160.
