ALBERT (AL) SAWATZKY Al passed away peacefully on May 18, 2011 at Lion's Manor Personal Care Centre at the age of 82. Al was born March 21, 1929 in Arnaud, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg with his parents Johann and Maria in 1952. On June 17, 1954 he married Valentine (Vally) Unger. Al's working life was spent as an electronics distributor. He volunteered with Portage Avenue Church, North West Commercial Traveler's Association and Lion's Manor. He leaves to mourn daughters Wendy Konowalchuk (Darrel), Dolores Tully (Scott), and Gaylene Hamilton (Patrick), and grand-children Ryan, Jesse, Jane, Joel, Matthew and Rayna. He is survived by his siblings Erica Sawatzky, John Sawatzky (Hilda), Ike Sawatsky (Hilda), Mary Goertzen (Bill), and a wonderful group of nephews, nieces, and their families. Al is predeceased by his parents and his wife Vally on May 20, 1997. We are very thankful to the staff at Lion's Manor for the respect, dignity, and compassion demonstrated in their care of our Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee. The Funeral Service will take place Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Avenue, with Pastors Travis Reimer and John Unger officiating. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing prior to the service. In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. Proverbs 16:9
