Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLET IRWIN (nee HORNICK) It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Violet at her residence in Fairview Home, Brandon, MB on May 17, 2011. She is survived by her children: David (Doreen) of Brandon, MB, Gary (Joanne) of Warman, SK, Linda of Vernon, BC, and Gail (Glenn) of Thompson, MB; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Leslie, David and her sister Shirley. Vi was predeceased by her husband Tom, parents Elmer and Edith, brothers Donald and Fred and sisters Eileen, Olive, Margaret and Elsie. Vi was born July 16, 1925 in Davis Point, MB and was one of 10 children. After marrying her husband, Tom, they lived and raised their family in Fairford, MB. When the children were older, Vi worked out of the home. She worked at CFB Gypsumville from the time it opened until the time it closed. After retiring from the military base she moved to Brandon, MB to be closer to family. One of Vi's greatest joys was having her grandchildren come to stay with her. Her hobbies included bingo, reading, rug hooking and making a Christmas stocking for each of the great-grandchildren. She enjoyed going for her mail and stopping to have coffee with her friends. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Ashern, MB with Rev. Donald Gould officiating. Service will conclude at the hall with cremation to follow. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canadian Diabetes Association, 200-310 Broadway Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
