MARY LANGHAN July 18, 1944 - May 22, 2011 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Langhan on May 22, 2011, surrounded by her family at Riverview Health Centre following a lengthy and courageous battle with breast cancer at the age of 66. Mary leaves to mourn her husband Paul; sons, Jody (Marcia), Trevor (Joleen) and James (Hannah); sisters, Joyce (Hazen), Lynn, Peggy; brothers, Brian (Tarja), Tim (Debbie); grandchildren, Mackenzie and Oliver, who meant the world to her, and were so precious because she knew her time with them would be too short. Mary was predeceased by her father Leslie Culligan, mother Marion, brother Stanley and brother-in-law Barry Gordon. Born in Jacquet River, New Brunswick, she attended elementary and high school in Jacquet River and undertook her Registered Nursing studies at Hotel-Dieu Hospital in Bathurst, followed by postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. Mary and Paul married on June 4, 1969 in Burnt Church, New Brunswick. In 1972, the family relocated to Winnipeg where Mary actively pursued her nursing career while looking after her boys . She nursed in ICU, taught prenatal classes and worked in her favourite discipline of Obstetrics and Gynecology for 26 years until her retirement in 2000. Being by the water was always a must for Mary. The many years spent at Minaki followed by 14 wonderful years at the family cottage in Clytie Bay, leaves us with a treasure of memories. Mary loved to have fun and had a litany of down home sayings that kept us in stitches. She could tell the story of rinderceller with the best of them! Kindness and courage were foremost among Mary's many attributes and strengths. Throughout her lengthy battle with cancer, she never gave up and rarely complained. At the height of her illness, she continued to comfort and encourage those around her. Mary's faith was unshakable under the most trying of circumstances. A special thanks to the extraordinary staff at CancerCare Manitoba and Riverview Health Centre. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road (at Drake Boulevard) with Fr. Fred Olds presiding. Pallbearers will be: Brian Culligan, Tim Culligan, Gerry Langhan, Martin Langhan, Quinn Langhan and Gerry Rochon. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. - An Irish Blessing The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J COUTU CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street 253-5086
