Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN MARY SENDALL OSWALD 1919 - 2011 Peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on May 17, 2011. Kathleen was born in Wallasey, England on March 19, 1919. She immigrated to Canada after the Second World War and her academic pursuits saw her graduate with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from University of Toronto in 1954, and a Master of Arts (English) from The University of Wisconsin, at Madison, in 1966. Shortly thereafter she commenced teaching at Balmoral Hall School, and this career move established Winnipeg as her permanent home. She is fondly remembered by her students for her commitment and devotion to their futures. Kathleen embarked on a new adventure in 1974 when she joined CUSO; she travelled to Nigeria where she taught at the Women's Teacher College, in Zonkwa. What was to be a short term engagement endured for some years until her return to Winnipeg, and her retirement in 1984. Kathleen had many interests, but music, particularly opera, and literature were her enduring companions. In retirement she found herself busy volunteering for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. She became proficient with Braille and both translated and keyboarded as part of her volunteer efforts. She will be sadly missed by her neighbours, David Skinner and Dale Guy. They both understood that her independence and individuality was precious to her. Cremation has taken place, and at Kathleen's request there will not be a formal service. An interment will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, June 9 in the Garden of Memories at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, across from Brookside Cemetery. If so desired, donations may be made to the C.N.I.B., 1080 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3, or to a charity of one's choice. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
