Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALOIS ADOLF FISCHER With his loving family by his side, Al passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital on May 26, 2011. Through the years, Al fought against many major illnesses, but this time he was too tired and weary. He fought hard but his strength was not there. Al was born in Sudetenland Germany on October 25, 1938 to Alois and Hedwig Fischer. His family had to flee Sudetenland in the war and they settled in Naunheim, West Germany. Al went to school, completed his apprenticeship in commercial painting and decorating, and received his journeyman's papers in West Germany. In 1958 Al came to Canada to visit his sister. He only intended to stay in Canada for four years, but changed his mind when he met the love of his life, Diane. Al and Diane married in 1963, settled in Winnipeg, and raised three wonderful boys. Al worked for many years at the family business, Manitoba Sausage but for most of his working life he worked as a professional painter. Al's greatest pride and joy were his three sons and his four grandchildren. They gave him the strength and courage to overcome his many illnesses. He loved to be with them and helped them whenever he could, whether it was to paint their homes, help with their gardens, BBQ his famous hamburgers, or go on their traditional Father's Day fishing trip. He loved to play with his grandchildren, kicking a soccer ball, teaching them how to garden, wood-working, building a model train set and even playing house with his two granddaughters. Al will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 47 years Diane, his sons Rolland, Kurt (Nicole) and Anthony (Nicole) and his grandchildren; Nathan, Derek, Andréa and Anna. Al is also survived by his sisters Henriette (Vancouver), Helga (Germany) and his twin sister Hedi (Germany). Memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. A private family interment will be held and reception will follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba. Our sincerest thanks to Dr. Reimer and the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital on 4th Floor, Unit 5 for their compassionate and wonderful care of Al. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, He closed His arms around you And whispered, Come to Me In tears we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away. Our hearts were almost broken, You fought so hard to stay. What we suffered, you told us few, You didn't deserve what you went through. Tired and weary, you made no fuss But tired so hard to stay with us. But when we saw you sleeping, So peaceful, free of pain, We could not wish you back To suffer all that again. So treasure him Lord, in your garden of rest, For here on earth, he was the very best. God Bless You, Amen. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca
