Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERDA MARIA THEODORA PEDERSEN March 3, 1920 - May 23, 2011 Gerda Pedersen, formerly of 1202 Alfred Avenue, Winnipeg, and most recently of the River Park Gardens in St. Vital, died peacefully in her sleep at the Victoria General Hospital after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband Egon, and is survived by her sister Ruth, brothers Harry, Arne and Preben and their families, all of Denmark. Gerda and Egon emigrated from Denmark together with the Kaufmann family (of Winnipeg) in 1954, and the two families remained close all the years they lived in Canada, sharing birthdays and family vacations and celebrations all through the years. A special thanks to Barb Holm for the special care she gave to Gerda while she lived at River Park Gardens. Gerda and Egon lived in the North End of Winnipeg; they were caretakers of an apartment block at Burrows and Salter for many years, and then bought their only house on Alfred Avenue in 1961, where they lived the rest of their married life. Egon worked for Winnipeg Cold Storage and later Alpha Fan Company (Joy Manufacturing), and Gerda worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the General Hospital on William Avenue. Gerda loved to visit her neighbours and enjoyed family and friends when they came to visit. She was accomplished in her many handicrafts, knitting, sewing and cross stitch, teaching knitting at the Craft Guild for many years. She won hundreds of Red Ribbons at local fairs and the Red River Exhibition. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be conducted at Glen Eden. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Gerda's life will take place at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, on July 11, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Gerda's name to the Winnipeg Foundation, 1350-1 Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0X3, Health Sciences Centre, 820 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9 or the Victoria General Hospital, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8.
