MARILYN JOAN LOBSON (nee LYON) April 29, 1933 - May 26, 2011 Peacefully after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer, with her family by her side, our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on May 26, 2011. Marilyn will ever be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years Norman, son Craig (Caroline), daughter Karen (Rick), her cherished grandchildren Chelsea and Brooke Lobson, and Russell (Amber) and Megan Carriere all of Winnipeg. Also left to mourn her memory are brothers and sisters-in-law George and Doreen Lobson (Victoria), Art Lobson, Elaine Lobson, Lorna Lobson (Maple Ridge) and many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her loving parents Myrtle (nee Smith) and Crosby (Pat) Lyon. Her childhood memories centered on a close bond she had with her grandmother Flo Smith and her Maternal Aunts Ethel, Vera, Alberta and Mildred. Having no children themselves they looked upon mom (who was an only child) as their own. Uncle Bill, Auntie Connie and their son Grant Smith were always present in her life. Also predeceased by brothers-in-law Alvin and Erwin Lobson and sister-in-law Joyce. Mother was born April 29, 1933 in Winnipeg. Growing up in St. Vital and Norwood she attended Glenwood School and Glenlawn Collegiate. After graduation she went on to attend Angus Business College where she was invited to join the fraternity of Alpha Iota Sorority, Chi Alpha Chapter where she made many lifelong friendships. Mom pursued a business career with West Chemical Products leaving only to raise a family. Mom and Dad were married for 54 years. Married September 15, 1956 to the boy next door, their relationship was a partnership built on love and respect for each other. Mom and dad were avid sports fan starting with the Winnipeg Monarchs and many years as season ticket holders for both the Jets and Bombers. Together they enjoyed travelling extensively to six continents. Mom loved exploring new places. Mom loved a party and her skill for lavish entertaining and exquisite gourmet meals all bore a special touch. She enjoyed over 50 years of cottaging in Matlock and 15 years in Sandy Hook as a child. Mom took great pride in her home and cottage filling the yards with flowers every year. We are fortunate that she left us a legacy through her oil paintings and her passion for knitting and crafts. Mom was a member of Daughter's of the Nile and the Khartum Ladies Auxiliary and attained over 25 years of membership with each of the Shrine's related organizations. Also, President of Fez Ladies Bowling League and a member of Sphinx Temple Patrol Unit. Other interests included being a member of the Winter Club playing badminton, bowling and sporadic bridge. She was a proud lifelong member of St. Philip's Anglican Church - where she was baptized, confirmed and married. Our well being meant everything to mom, always glowing with pride at our achievements. Mom always instilled in her family the values of traditional respect and adherence to golden rule. She was a doting and loving grandmother whose love was returned in full measure. Mom's warmth, kindness and generosity will be sorrowfully missed, but never forgotten by her family and friends. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of unit 3A, St. Boniface Hospital for the care and compassion they showed to mom in her final days. A memorial service will be held for Marilyn on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marilyn's memory to Cancer Care Manitoba.
