METRO JAMES FINCARYK Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, on May 29, 2011, Metro James Fincaryk of Selkirk, passed away at age 73, with his wife and family by his side. Metro leaves to mourn, his beloved wife of 50 years, Ruth; his son Mark (Diane); and daughter Sandra Atkins (Vaughn); his five loving grandsons, CJ, Brandur, Chase, Zach and Tyson; sisters, Isabel, Joyce (Ray), Evelyn; brother Steve (Diane); sisters-in-law, Lena, Nel, Victoria, Isabel (Cliff) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Marjorie; in-laws, Tom and Mary Rosky; brother Leonard; brothers-in-law, Mel, Fred, Alex and Mike; sisters-in-law, Mary Anne and June. Metro was born in Sturgis, SK in 1938, he moved to Selkirk in 1958, where he met his wife Ruth, and he started working at the Manitoba Rolling Mill. During his time at the Mill, he became an active union member, and held many different positions in the union executive. It was natural for him, because he always enjoyed working alongside his fellow steelworkers, and helping them out whenever he could. Metro loved to hunt and fish, and went on many trips with his brothers and friends. They didn't always come back with any game, but Metro always had a good story to tell, and he made sure everyone heard it. After his retirement in 1998, Metro enjoyed golfing with friends, having a couple of drinks at the Legion, or walking to the coffee shop to catch up on the latest news with his buddies. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, and he loved being a part of their lives. Metro's five grandsons will be his special Pallbearers. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow in the St. Clements Cemetery, Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. The family would like to thank the staff at Selkirk General Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Selkirk Palliative Care Unit, P.O. Box 5000, Selkirk, MB R1A 2M2. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
