He was 81 years old. Ed was born on August 20, 1929 in Winnipeg, and lived all his life in the Elmwood / East Kildonan area. Ed and Shirley started dating when they were both 15 years old. They married on August 18, 1951 and would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this summer. Ed worked for the City of Winnipeg in the Assessment Department from 1947 until he retired in 1986. Since that time he has enjoyed bird watching, reading, travelling, and spending time with his family. One special gift of Ed's was his woodworking. He created exquisite woodworking tools and benches to 1/12th scale, and designed many different lace making bobbins for Shirley. Ed's desire for perfection was evident in all that he did. Special thanks to the nursing staff on the 3rd floor at Concordia Hospital for Ed's care. And also for the special care and compassion demonstrated by the staff in ensuring Shirley could be with Ed in his final minutes. Donations may be made in Ed's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
