MARY SHOLDAK On Sunday, May 29, 2011 at the Portage District General Hospital, Mary Sholdak of Portage la Prairie, widow of the late Michael Sholdak, passed away at the age of 95 years. Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Portage Evangelical Church, 72 3rd St. NE, Portage la Prairie, on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Mary was born on August 26, 1915, daughter of Michael and Katherine Porrok at Riding Mountain, Manitoba. She was raised and received her education at Eden, Manitoba. In 1940, she married Michael Sholdak and they resided south east of Portage where they farmed until 1975, when they moved to Angle Road. Mary was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption and later attended the Portage Evangelical Church. In her earlier years she was active on the farm and with bee keeping. She enjoyed her garden and especially growing strawberries and raspberries. Her hobbies included needlework, crocheting and quilting.. Mary was a good neighbour and after her husband's passing she appreciated the friendships and acts of kindness her neighbours showed her. Predeceased by her husband in 1986, her infant son Billy in 1943, her brother Mike, sisters, Ann Levandosky, Jenny Gutoski, Alice Hancharyk and Paulie Loepp. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Germaine (Ted) Thorpe of Lynn Lake and four grand-children. Also surviving is her brother Bill of Eden, Manitoba, her sister Nellie Tanchuk of Winnipeg, and several nieces and nephews.
