HELEN MARGARET YOUNGER September 18, 1922 - May 31, 2011 Peacefully on May 31 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, after a long and very happy life. Cherished mother of Gary (Regina) McLachlan, Ted (Cathy Auld) McLachlan, Jennifer (Gerry) Bruce and Edward Younger. Dearly missed by grandchildren, Jason McLachlan (Michelle and daughters, Madison and Alyssa), Bradley McLachlan (Tiffany), Rory Bruce, Cameron McLachlan and Sean McLachlan. Mom was predeceased by her loving husbands, Harold McLachlan in 1955 and Andrew (Andy) Younger in 2001; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken and Leebe Pratt and John and Phyll Pratt. Helen is survived by her brother Dick and sister-in-law Joan of Calgary. Warmly remembered as Aunt Helen to her many nephews and nieces in the extended Pratt and McLachlan families, and her special cousins, Aileen, Evelyn and Barbara in England. Helen grew up and lived her whole life in Riverview and Lord Roberts where her parents, Harold and Margaret Pratt settled when they immigrated from India and England. Here she enjoyed many lifelong friendships with dear friends, Shirley and Graham Pincock, Betty and Laurie McGregor, Mary Godard, Corrine (Cork) and Ken Smith, Mima Harper and many others. Helen enjoyed 59 years on Montgomery Avenue in Riverview where she made enduring friendships with all her neighbours. She took special delight in seeing new generations of children enjoying the neighbourhood as she did. No child ever visited without leaving full of cookies and with a special present. Widowed at a very early age with two young children, Helen returned to work where she had a rewarding career as a secretary at Imperial Oil and the Province of Manitoba's Veterinary Services Branch where she was executive secretary to Dr. Jack McPhedran. Helen was simply known to all as a sweetheart and will be dearly remembered and missed. Helen's family acknowledges with love, the kindness of many friends including the McGregors, the Pincocks, the Waddells, and so many more. We also extend appreciation to the Canoe Club, Helen's recent home. A special thanks goes out to the caring health professionals on 4East in St. Boniface Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A private interment service will be conducted for the extended family at Green Acres Cemetery. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Helen's life will take place at Thomson In the Park , 1291 McGillivray Blvd. on Monday, June 13 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations celebrating Helen's life may be made to the Bur Oak Fund at The Winnipeg Foundation, 1350-1 Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0X3 or online at www.wpgfdn.org
