ANTONIO ALMONTE SR. Tony Almonte, aged 64, lost his courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, May 31, 2011, surrounded by his entire family, at the Grace Hospital. Tony is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Susan Opida Almonte. His legacy will live on in his six children, Theresa (Steve), Nick (Carrie), Michael, Antonio Jr. (Anna), Cathleen (Chris) and Michelle (Jay) and seven grandchildren, Khayla, Abigail, Andi, Caris, Kaiden, Zoe, and Paxton. His memory will be forever cherished by his brothers and sisters, Ella (Victor) Cameron, Marcelo (Nida) Almonte, Lisa (Danny) Villapana, Conrad (Gemma) Almonte, Nena (Benjie) Baquiran, Alberto (Beth) Almonte and Joe (Daisy) Almonte; his extended family in Canada, Jess (Carmie) Opida, Nelly (Jerry) Palima, Ester (Ed) Palad , Marivic (Ed) Correa, Rodolfo Jr. (Melrose) Roscuata and numerous relatives and friends in Canada and globally, Tea ( Steven) Anderson. Tony was born in Polangui, Albay, Philippines. He married and started his family at a young age and soon after joined in the family business. Tony took the business that his father Pedro started, to the next level by expanding on the offerings and services. In 1978, Tony and Susan started a new life and adventure with their growing family in the other side of the world, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Together, they overcame many obstacles to achieve what Tony has always said was his greatest achievement, and that was to raise six independent and successful children. Tony and Susan enjoyed their later years by continuing their adventure of travels to many parts of the world. Tony was involved in the community by being one of the original founders of the Bicol Association of Manitoba and was an active member till the end. He worked for many years for Sullivan Strong Scott where he made many friends and compare. The last part of his working years was spent at Micro Tool Industries and will leave behind great friendships. Tony will be forever remembered for his big smile and contagious laughter, for his sound advice, for his generosity, his playful nature, his meticulous cleaning protocols, his slowest eating habits and most of all, his unselfish love and devotion to his family and friends. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of CancerCare and Medical Unit at the Grace Hospital and Health Sciences Centre. Special thanks to Dr. Harris, Dr. George, Dr. Joshua and Dr. Seftel. Without Pa/Lolo/Tony/Enoy, our hearts are broken and our tears endless, but our memories and joys are immeasurable knowing that he will be at peace with the Lord. Rest in peace till we meet again and know we will keep and protect your memories forever in our hearts and soul. Tony will live on forever.
