JOHN LOEWEN May 12, 1940 - June 1, 2011 It is with love and sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad, step-dad, opa, brother and friend, John. John passed away peacefully after a very brave and courageous battle with cancer at Riverview Medical Centre on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. He will forever live affectionately in the hearts of his loving wife, Sandy, his children, Jarrod, Leah (David), Laura (Ryan), Jamie (Kerry) and step-daughter Kim. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandsons Mason, Cameron, Dylan, Jack and Leo. John was predeceased by his father, Julius, mother Elisabeth, step-father, Dietrich, mother-in-law, Violet, brothers, Henry, Victor and Hans and sisters, Lily, Lisel and Rita. He is survived by his big brother Willy (Mary), step-sisters Herta (Jake), Frieda and many nieces and nephews. John enjoyed many years doing all the things he loved passionately; working with his hands, volunteering within the community, hunting, camping, traveling the world, living the good life at Lilac; but most of all he loved spending lots of time with friends and family! The family would like to extend sincere thanks to all the staff in 3E ward at Riverview Medical Centre and Cancer Care at HSC. The care we received was extraordinary! Viewing will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 6 at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 7 at 11:00 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, Mennonite Central Committee or Riverview Medical Centre.

  • Hey Johnny, dreamt about you last night. It was a good dream, talked for a long time. Worked with you many years at the U of M. You put in my furnace. We both received our gifts together at the University's 25 year celebration. You were one of the good ones. Miss you buddy, Ron - Posted by: Ron Holland (Co worker) on: Jan 04, 2016
