CARL ORFORD January 14, 1930 May 31, 2011 Peacefully, with his family by his side, Carl Orford passed away at Concordia Place. He leaves to mourn his wife Liz; children Diane and Ron (Paul, Cole); Lori and Gary (Jenna); Ken and Sigrid (Jessica, Jordon) and stepchildren Kathy and Frank; Ross and Carol (Aaron, Rory, Amy). Carl was predeceased by his first wife Ellie in 1979. Carl and Liz married in 1984 and upon his retirement after 38 years with the CNR they moved to their paradise in Peachland, British Columbia. They enjoyed many visits from family and friends and were most gracious hosts. Carl was able to carry on his love of fishing aboard his yacht and enjoyed taking others for tours on Lake Okanagan. He and Liz also enjoyed their travels to Mexico, Hawaii, Arizona, California and Nevada. After Carl's two knee replacement surgeries in 2006, it was time to leave their Okanagan paradise and return to Winnipeg to be closer to family. Unfortunately, Carl's health continued to decline necessitating a move to Concordia Place in September, 2007. Our Dad was known for his strong work ethic and especially recognized for his voracious laugh. He was a true gentleman. He loved to win at cards, read, fish, watch/play sports and enjoyed a good joke. He worked hard for and was generous with his family and even in his death we can smile for the man he was. He loved and was loved deeply. The family thanks the staff of Concordia Place for their compassionate care of Carl and the support provided to the family. In memory of Carl, think of him when you enjoy a boat ride, the mountains, fishing or especially when you're experiencing a great belly laugh! Cremation has taken place. Out of respect for Dad's wishes, no funeral service will be held. Flowers are kindly and gratefully declined. If friends wish, a donation in Carl's memory may be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Carl was an incredibly generous man. I'm not sure that I would be where I am today without him. He was deeply loved and appreciated by all. We lost touch shortly after he married Liz. I was happy to hear that they had a good life together in BC and in their travels. Condolences to the family. I also recently lost my Dad (Jan 22/12). They are missed but not forgotten. - Posted by: Paula Kraemer (Friend) on: Apr 25, 2012
