Born: Dec 14, 1945
Date of Passing: Jun 02, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) COMASKEY December 14, 1945 - June 2, 2011 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, Bill Comaskey, after a brief illness. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Pat; daughter Brenda (Mike); son David (Becky); grandsons, Liam and Brady; Dear Mother Martha; brothers, Bernie, Sean, Fehin, Anthony and Camillus, extended family and a large circle of friends and colleagues. Billy was born in Drumcree, Westmeath, Ireland and immigrated to Thompson, Manitoba in 1966. After working in various positions at INCO for 14 years, Bill embarked on a 31-year career with the Manitoba Government, first as Mines Inspector in Thompson until 2005 and most recently as Director of the Mine Safety Branch. Bill loved politics and started his own illustrious career when he joined Thompson City Council in 1989. Shortly after, he took on the role of Mayor Bill for nearly 16 years, Thompson's longest serving mayor. In 2006, Bill retired from politics and he and Pat moved to Winnipeg to be closer to family. Outside of his life of dedicated service, Bill was passionate about family, travel and sports - especially his beloved golf. He was an avid player and spectator. Bill and Pat enjoyed all of their time on the golf course as members of the Southwood Golf Country Club, and on their most recent trip to Florida in February. Bill cherished his experiences with his son David at events such as the Masters, Ryder Cup and President's Cup. He was also so proud to be an official at the 2010 CN Canadian Women's Open. We wish to thank the staff at Health Sciences Centre for all the care they provided for Bill and our family. Funeral services will take place Monday, June 6 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Cross Church, 252 Dubuc Street, Winnipeg, with interment and reception to follow at the Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Rath de ar a anam (God rest his Soul) Glen Lawn Funeral Home in care of arrangements, 982-7550.

I knew Bill since 1966 meeting at a party. Then saw him a few times when he made his rounds as mine inspector. His brother Bernie was my best man. I'm shocked to hear of his passing. - Posted by: Peter Petkevicius (friend, brother bernie was my best man) on: Aug 23, 2012

Hard to believe it's almost been a year. What a great man I knew while getting through my teenage years in Thompson...who knew the same man would eventually be presenting me with tools on my wedding day in 2000...an exceptional man, a wonderful leader, and a great friend. He is missed. - Posted by: Debbie Wappula () on: Apr 02, 2012
