JOHN PERSOWICH, SR. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather, John Persowich, Sr. on June 2, 2011 at the Vita Hospital in Vita, Manitoba. John was born in Sirko, Manitoba to Harry and Anna Persowich on April 15, 1922. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marion in 1991; brothers, Bill and Peter; and sister Sophie. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law Jim Johnston and daughter-in-law Wendy Persowich. He is lovingly remembered and survived by his children, Christina (Alex) Anonychuk, John Jr. (Joyce) Persowich, Judy Johnston, Patricia Persowich, Jacqueline (Robert) Lewandiwsky, Gary (Bonnie) Persowich, Irene (Jan) Collins, Edward Persowich; and one sister, Mary Boychuk. He was also the beloved Gido to 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Dad was a hard working husband and father whose main goal was to support and provide for his family. He farmed on the Sirko homestead and also worked cutting pulp in the forests around the southeast area of Manitoba. Dad enjoyed the outdoors with activities such as hunting, berry picking, gardening, as well as travelling and spending time with his wife, Marion. Together, our parents were involved in community functions and were lifelong members and supporters of St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church. They often entertained friends and relatives in their home providing everyone with warm and happy memories. Dad moved to the Shady Oaks Lodge in Vita shortly after his retirement where he made many good friends and enjoyed life with them. The family would like to thank and express their gratitude to all the home care workers who allowed Dad to stay in his home as long as possible. Also special thanks to the physicians and staff at the Vita Hospital and Whispering Pines Lodge. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with prayers at 7:00 p.m. at the Vita Funeral Home, Vita, Manitoba. Funeral service will held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Sirko, Manitoba with interment in the church cemetery. Dinner to follow at the Sundown Community Hall in Sundown. Vichnaya Pamyat Vita Funeral Home Vita, Manitoba In Care of Arrangements. 1-204-425-3114
