ALBERT HENRY AMES Albert Ames died peacefully, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at St. Boniface Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Isabel, and his brother Robert. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Doris and son Adrian, and stepson Raymond Walker as well as sons Robin and Phillip from his first marriage. Also left to mourn are his sister Hilda (Biddy), sister-in-law Josie Ames and numerous nephews and nieces. Al was born March 6, 1938 in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. Al immigrated to Canada in 1967, settling in Manitoba, and worked for Standard Aero for a short time. This was followed by a long career as a central office man (switchman) with Manitoba Telephone System. After retiring from MTS he worked as a security guard most recently for Garda Security at the UFCW Training Centre on Portage Avenue. His hobbies were photography, electronics and puttering around the cottage. Our little dog Carlo brightened his days. Ever loving and loyal to his family and friends, Al was a quiet man who bore his long illness bravely and with great dignity. He will be sadly missed. A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday June 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd., with a reception to follow. Interment of his ashes at the cemetery in East Braintree, Manitoba will take place at a later date.
