ANNIE SKOROPATA (nee DOYLE) Peacefully on Saturday, June 4 2011, with family at her side, Annie passed away at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 86 years. Mom's courageous battle against cancer is finally won. Missing Annie in our lives and celebrating her life are children, Fred (Kelley), Carol, Linda (Roland), Debbie (Mike); many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret and Bridget as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, of 58 years of marriage; parents Philip and Annie; sister Mary; brothers Philip and Johnny. Annie was born and raised in a mid-eastern Manitoba community. At a very young age her lifetime of hard physical work began - logging camp and boat cook, commercial and hospital cleaning and finally hospital courier from which she retired. But mom was not all about work. She loved to make time for friends and family; baking and cooking our favourites, a game at the kitchen table or knitting one of her special gifts - all served up with a generous dose of lively music, singing and dancing. Whether at home or at the lake she was always happiest when there was a crowd. Even when mom was very sick, she always felt better if she got out for a visit. Mom's introduction to hockey began with her grandsons and quickly became her passion. Her cheers of encouragement could be heard in hockey arenas across Manitoba and into the U.S. She loved a good game and talked about professional players as though they were family. On Friday, June 10, 2011 a Celebration of Annie's Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue (Corner of Mount Royal Road and Ness Avenue). For those who wish, parking will be available in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church parking lot located on Ness Avenue. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue. Our family would like to thank all of mom's medical team, as well as our many thoughtful friends and neighbours. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in memory of Annie to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
