DARLENE HEBERT January 23, 1943 - June 5, 2011 Peacefully, surrounded by her husband and three daughters, Darlene passed away at home on June 5, 2011. Darlene is survived by her husband Victor, of 44 years, daughters, Kim (Shawn, children: Nicholas, Justine), Karolyn (Ron, children: Aaron, Ethan, Abbey) and Michelle (Kevin, children: Roman, Lola, Willow), and sisters Bev (Reg) and Joyce (George). Darlene was predeceased by her parents Anna and Abe Spenst and sisters Esther and Florence. Mom was born on January 23, 1943 in Carman, Manitoba. She lived in several small towns until she settled comfortably in Winnipeg where she met and married the love of her life Vic. For many years, Mom worked as a telephone operator for MTS until the birth of her children. From that point on, Mom devoted her life to her daughters. Mom had many interests including gardening, reading about health and nutrition, ceramics and recipe collecting . She always said she had never met a recipe that didn't make her mouth water ! We will all miss her homemade biscuits and date square. However, her passion in life was her family. Mom was quiet, unassuming and patient, but she had a wonderful sense of humour behind closed doors with those she held closest. She had the best laugh! Mom valiantly fought a 12 year battle with stage four cancer. She endured surgery, chemotherapy and three courses of radiation without complaint. She often said the worst part of this was having to tell her girls. Even though this was a difficult time Mom felt blessed that she was able to meet and make memories with all of her eight grandchildren. Thank you to Palliative Care for allowing Mom to spend her last few months at home comfortably. Special thanks for the gentle care given by Nurse Richard and aides Imman, Evie and Rosa. Service to celebrate Mom's life will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Jubilee Mennonite Church, 365 Edelweiss Crescent. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Into your hands O Lord...... We love and miss you Darby, Mom, Grandma and Moomee!
