Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPHINE SMART (nee GOSSELIN) 1917 - 2011 On June 5, 2011, surrounded by family and friends at the Tache Centre, Josephine slipped peacefully into the hands of her Saviour. She was predeceased by her loving husband Frank in 2001, her parents Albina and Joseph Gosselin, her brothers George, Ovide, Sinai, and Joseph Gosselin, her sisters Laura Lambert, Malvina Tellier, Sr. Albina Gosselin, Sr. Anna Gosselin, and Irene Lord. Left to mourn her passing are her sisters, Margaret Lambert of Fort Frances, Ontario, Agnes (Marcel) Comeault of Winnipeg and brother Henri (Yvonne) of Golden, British Columbia. She is survived by Frank's children Bill, Frank Jr., Kevin and Lisa as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Josie spent her early years on the farm in LaBroquerie, Manitoba. She joined the Grey Nuns at the age of 17. Her years of religious service were spent at St. Boniface Hospital, LaVerendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario and health facilities in Montreal and Regina. When she was 52 Josie left the religious life. She worked in California and Arizona until she returned to Winnipeg. In 1976 she married Frank Smart. They enjoyed their years together and were active in their church community, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Charleswood. Josie worked in the food services industry. She was extremely competent in her work. She had a strong work ethic and set high standards in food preparation and delivery. She delighted in a well set table and an eye catching presentation. The eye tastes first was her motto. Josie enjoyed sewing and made many of her own clothes. She knit blankets for newborns and made rosaries which were donated to the missions. She was generous to a fault, always sharing whatever she had with others. Pet poodles were the joy of her life and she delighted in grooming and training them. Family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Tache Centre. There are angels among us who bless each of our days. Mass of the Resurrection will be held Thursday, June 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 4588 Roblin Boulevard. Viewing will be at 10:30 a.m., Monsignor M. Comeault will be officiating. She will be buried beside her beloved husband Frank at Chapel Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Louis Tellier, Joseph Tellier, Patrick Windling, Charles Gosselin, Walter Laing and Raymond Gosselin.
