Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAURICE SPORTAK With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Maurice Sportak at the age of 78, on June 4, 2011, after a brief period of illness. Maurice was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Matthew; brothers John (Gertie) and Willie (Diane); sisters Mary (Bill) and Agnes (George). Left to cherish his memory are his brothers Joseph and Paul (Ann); twin sister Sr. Daria and sisters Rose (Wm) and Anne (Bill) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Maurice was born in Vita in 1932, he grew up and lived most of his life on the family farm, along with his brother Joseph. As a young man, Maurice held various part time jobs in the city but his heart was always on the farmland. Maurice never had any children but he was quick to spoil all the nieces and nephews during their visits to the farm in Caliento. After retiring from farming Maurice took a keen interest in his family heritage, which lead him to travel and meet relatives in Ukraine. Maurice and Joseph made numerous trips to the old country where they developed strong relationships with cousins, aunts and uncles and made generous monetary contributions. Maurice had a special gift of remembering facts and dates of events and he became our unofficial family historian. Maurice also had a great passion for reading. Maurice was a much-loved brother, uncle, cousin, godfather and friend who will be sadly missed by all. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church on Friday, June 10 at 10:00 a.m. His Grace, Most Reverend Emeritus Bishop Michael Bzdel C.S.S.R. will be presiding. Donations in Maurice's memory may be made to St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Vita Funeral Home Vita, Manitoba In Care of Arrangements 1-204-425-3114
