Born on January 10, 1910 at Thibeaultville (Richer), Manitoba from the union of Ovide Pelletier and Angeline Richard, Clara was the third child of a family of 11 children. She attended school at Richer before continuing her high school at Ste-Anne des Chênes where she had the Grey Nuns as teachers. Responding to God's invitation to follow Him in religious life, Clara joined the Grey Nuns on August 5, 1930 and consecrated herself to God by religious profession two years later. Following her profession, Sister Clara began studies in nursing at St. Boniface General Hospital and started a ministry of caring for the sick in various health care facilities. The following hospitals and nursing homes in Gravelbourg, Ste-Rose, Ste-Anne, Berens River, Regina, Fort Frances, as well as Taché Centre and Saint-Vital Sanatorium benefited from her compassion and nursing skills. Woman of faith and prayer, Sister Clara showed creativity and initiative in order to provide the best care with the simple means of her time. After retiring from active ministry, Sister Clara continued to serve in pastoral care. Until her last moments, Sister Clara remained active and loved to be present at prayer gatherings or other special community events. Sister Clara leaves to mourn her religious community, her brother Ephrem, o.m.i., a sister-in-law Betty (Edmond) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six sisters, three brothers and their spouses. Prayers will be held on Friday, June 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Despins Residence at 151 Despins Street. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 11 at 1:00 p.m. also at Despins Residence by Father Léo Couture as celebrant.
