MIKE HNATIUK December 13, 1922 - June 8, 2011 With deep sadness, after a brief illness, Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep at Red River Place. Mike was born in Gonor, moving to Kirkness in 1928, then to Selkirk in 1949 to raise his family. Mike served overseas in the Second World War and upon his return went to work for the Manitoba Rolling Mills. He worked there till his retirement in July of 1985 after 39 1/2 years of service, while continuing to farm in the Kirkness area. Mike enjoyed 26 years of retirement life. Farming was his passion and he farmed with his son Terry until his health began to fail four years ago. Mike was a very caring and giving person. He would help anyone in need always putting his needs last. He liked to socialize with his friends and family and always had somebody dropping by the farm to chat. Mike was a devoted husband, great father and grandfather. He was very proud of his grandson Michael and spent much of his time with him while he was growing up. We can still hear him say Michael is a good boy, let him be . Remaining to cherish Mike's memories are his son Terry (Teresa), grandson Michael, daughter Diane (Glenn) Ulicki, sister Irene Banish along with several nieces and nephews. Mike will be deeply missed by us and forever in our thoughts. Mike was predeceased by his parents, loving wife Eva, brothers Sam and Ross, and sister Anne. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 14, at 10:30 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel with viewing one half hour prior to service. Burial to follow in Gonor Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. R. Lindenschmidt and Dr. R. Zoppa along with all the great staff at Red River Place for their care and compassion. Special thanks from Mike to Diane, Cindy, Joanie and Denise. Mike's pallbearers will be Clifford, David, Paul, Mark, Andrew and Michael Hnatiuk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's name to Red River Place Personal Care Home - Activities, 133 Manchester Ave., Selkirk, MB R1A 0B5. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
