She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Trish (Louie) of Strathmore, AB, Rob (Jill) of Saskatoon, Dave of Regina and Deb of Winnipeg, and her grandchildren Emma of Strathmore and Chris, Steven, Samantha and Andy of Regina. She will also be remembered by her sister-in-law Renée of Regina, and missed by her furry companions, Fritz and Elsie. Joan was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Les, and by her parents, George and Enid Cassidy. She was born in Regina, SK and grew up in Montreal, where she met Les at the wedding of mutual friends. They were married in Montreal and moved to Regina immediately afterward, where she worked as a secretary at Sheldon-Williams Collegiate before beginning her career as a full-time mom. Her family will always fondly remember her love of summers at the lake with the kids and her mom, and her joy in cooking and feeding family and friends. Joan moved to Winnipeg in 2009, and enjoyed wonderful friendships in her new home. Joan's family would like to thank the caring medical personnel in Winnipeg, who gave her comfort, confidence and a sense of friendship as well as excellent medical care. Special thanks to Dr. Glenn Morris, and to everyone at CancerCare Manitoba, especially Angela Martens, Candice Myers and Doctors Nashed and Quon. Warm thanks to nurses Marianne and Monique of the W.R.H.A. Palliative Care Program who provided wonderful care, and to the staff at the Victoria and St. Boniface Hospitals. At Joan's request there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may make donations to CancerCare Manitoba (www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca) 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or a charity of their choice.
