MARY NICKEL 1942 - 2011 After a courageous battle with cancer, and with the love of her family around her, Mary Nickel passed away on June 9, 2011. She will be forever missed, but not forgotten, by her children, Kim, Cheryl, Greg, Lori, Shannon, and Cory (Darla); her grandchildren Tara (Andrew), Hannah, Caitlan, and Jesse; her sister Ellen (Sig); her brothers Dan (Corleen) and Roman (Jeanette) as well as her nieces, nephews and many, many friends. She was predeceased by her parents Wasyl and Alexsandra, her sisters, Leona and Ann, and her brother John. Mom was her happiest in the kitchen, cooking up her daily specials and often breaking out into song loud enough so everyone could hear it. To her, there was no greater joy than having a crowd of people around her to visit, joke, and laugh with. She was well known for her homemade soups and her passion for yard sales. To Mom, her children and grandchildren were her life, and she was rarely seen without one or all of them by her side. To the world she was just one person, but to us, her family, she was the world. Always in our hearts, and forever on our minds, We love you Mom! The family would like extend special thanks to the staff of the 3E Palliative Care Unit at Riverview, CancerCare at Health Sciences Centre and Palliative Care for the kindness and attention they gave to Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare at Health Sciences Centre or Riverview Health Centre. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
