PAUL OTT 1928 - 2011 Peacefully on Tuesday, June, 7, 2011 at the Concordia Hospital, Paul Ott passed away at the age of 83 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mathilde, of 58 years, his children Gordon (Marsha), Norman (Kathy), and grandchildren Noah and Ethan. He is survived by his sisters Maria, Annie and Elisabeth of Germany, as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, who will also miss him greatly. He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Klara, siblings Klara, Bernhard and Josef (Ingetraud), and brothers-in-law, Josef and Gerhard, all of Germany. Paul was born to Paul and Klara Ott on February 16, 1928 in Eschenau, Germany. Paul married his sweetheart, Mathilde, in October 1952. In 1953 the couple took a big step by following Mathilde's family to Canada. Paul soon found work in the construction industry as a Carpenter. In 1966 his long awaited son, Gordon, arrived and soon after followed Norman. The family was now complete and very happy. In 1969 Paul called himself lucky and was thankful for obtaining a job as a Carpenter with the Province of Manitoba until his retirement from the maintenance department of Red River Community College in 1992. Paul loved the outdoors, taking his family on many camping and fishing trips. Throughout his retirement years, he especially enjoyed spending time at his trailer on the Winnipeg River. He was a long-standing member of the German Society of Winnipeg. He enjoyed spending time at the club with his friends, playing cards and watching German soccer. The family would like to thank Dr. Bergen for his kindness and care throughout the years. We would also like to thank all the staff at the Concordia Hospital for their care over the last four weeks. Viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, June, 14 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, across from Brookside Cemetery. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Heimo Bachmeyer officiating, with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Garry Guttek, Justin Guttek, Ryan Guttek, Ronald Kunkel, Werner Guttek, Noah Ott and Ethan Ott. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paul's memory to the St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3G 1N9 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6.
