JIM DODD Suddenly on Thursday, June 9, 2011 Jim Dodd aged 78 years of Winnipeg Beach, beloved husband of Sonya. Jim was born in Birtle, MB in 1932 and moved to Winnipeg in 1941. Birtle was always a special part of his life. In his adult years he served in the Armed Forces and belonged to the Legion for over 50 years. He resided in Winnipeg and worked for Kub Bakery. In the 1970s Jim and Ileen made Winnipeg Beach their home. After Ileen died on September 24, 1992 Jim retired and worked for Interlake Service. Jim was a member and director of Winnipeg Beach Curling Club, member of Winnipeg Beach Fire Association. An avid golfer Jim participated in Gimli, and Inwood being his favourite golf course. In 1999 Jim married Sonya, they traveled to the east and west coast, and visited with his granddaughter and husband Dan in Wales. One of the highlights of that trip was a visit to the town where his ancestors lived and a visit to the cemetery where they were buried. Jim was always willing to help anyone who asked for his assistance. He always enjoyed meeting with his buddies for the Grey Cup, hockey finals and any other excuse for a Goldschlawger. Jim's memorable experience was his trip to the US for curling and was the topic of conversation for the rest of his life. He always enjoyed visiting his family and was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Sonya; son Kenny; stepchildren Linda Forsythe (Ken), Marilyn Westman (Rick), Reid Kelner (Marielle) and Brent; grandchildren, Tammie, Trish, Dee, Tannis, Kenny, Bobby Jo, Cory, Danielle and Beth and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, four brothers, and his daughter Lynne Maureen. Celebration of Jim's life will be held on Wednesday, June 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Winnipeg Beach, MB with Fr. Art Seaman officiating. A private family interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gateway Foundation, Box 172, Winnipeg Beach, MB R0C 3G0.
