DAVID JOHN AULD With great sadness that we announce that David Auld passed away on June 13, 2011. He was predeceased by his parents David and Jessie. David leaves behind his sister Jean-Marie, many cousins in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Scotland, and a whole troop of friends in Winnipeg, Ontario and Scotland. We all feel his loss so very deeply, but also take great comfort that his death was as he wished in his own home and after his decision to end his treatment for cancer. David approached his illness in the same way that he dealt with all other aspects of his life with humour, gentle irreverence and concern for others. He loved sports of all kinds. The Caledonian Inverness Thistle and Manchester United Football Clubs have lost a true and dedicated fan. His younger cousin Quinn (the Kid) was lucky to have learned to golf with someone who was patient and as much fun as David. Bill in Toronto could always count on David to bet on everything from football to horses to whether the sun would rise in the east or west. David loved music, especially blues, and was also an eclectic reader. He could be counted on to share books, movies and music that he thought worthwhile, and to tell you what he thought stunk. Those who know our family know our love for dogs. This was certainly true of David, that is until he was kidnapped by cats. Strays knew him as a soft touch for food and shelter under his steps. Every once in awhile one of these felines agreed to live with him. Duckett was with David when he passed and she will go on to live with Jean-Marie. Our family would like to thank all of the people who formed a circle of support around David. His many good friends enjoyed going out for a beer with him. Meals with Rodney were much enjoyed. David's Winnipeg cousins loved getting together with him at family dinners. Friends and family outside of Winnipeg called frequently to get his take on life, the universe and everything. Jean-Marie was both an amazingly devoted sister and a loyal friend who gave David every measure of support he needed, and every ounce of respect for his independence that he deserved. In accordance with David's wishes, there will be no funeral service. In accordance with our love for him, there will a celebration of his life at a later date where all the best David stories will be told and toasted. If you would like, please make a donation in David's honour to either the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada. Robert Burns would surely not mind a wee change to one of his poems: Kings may be blest, but David was glorious, O'er a' the ills o'life victorious.
