CATHERINE HALABUT All deceased deserve their last rite of passage as well as to be buried peacefully. It is with sadness the family of Catherine Halabut announces the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, baba, and great baba. Born Catherine Chachulak, January 29, 1921 in Stanishlawow, Galicia Poland to a hard working farming family. Her mother died when she was just a child and it impacted her entire life. During the communist terror she was driven from her home to work in fields for others and along the way she met her beloved husband Alex (Ilko) who preceded her six years ago. They immigrated to Canada in the early 50s establishing their roots in East Selkirk, Manitoba. She worked the land, toiled the soil, and looked after her home the best she could. She loved her church, her family, and all of the Ukrainian traditions. Cooking, gardening, listening to her records and singing folklore were just a few of her favourite things. She was grateful for all of the blessings of life in Canada. She spoke of one sister Mary and a brother John that she left behind in her home land. She lived her life in worries and hard work and taught us to be respectful of others whatever their circumstances may be. People die but love never does. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter Anna (Ken); granddaughter Traci (Richard); great-grandsons Keaton (Jillian) and Kolran (Jennifer); grandson Dallas (Kari); great-granddaughter Danika, and great-grandsons Keanan and Jordan. A small private prayer service has been held prior to cremation and an interment will follow at a later date. Vichnaya Pam'yat Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
