Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLLIE LESTER After a short illness it is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father Ollie Lester on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Concordia Hospital at the age of 85 years. Remaining to forever cherish Ollie's memory are wife Gayle; daughters Kathy and Sheree (Norm); son Patrick; grandchildren Mark, Jenna and Matthew; sister-in-law Lynn Paton (George); cousin Ann Whitson of Memphis; as well as extended family members and many, many good friends. Born on July 29, 1925 in Memphis, Tennessee, Ollie moved to Winnipeg in 1948 and worked for the CPR. He went on to work for the Winnipeg Transit where he was the first black transit bus driver. Ollie spent 25 years working for the Manitoba Government and retired in 1992. His need to keep busy led him to work for Beaver Bus Lines for 10 years, he retired at age 82. Ollie was very active in his community; he belonged to Regent Lodge #5, Price Hall affiliation and Fezzan Temple #26, Minneapolis. He was a member of the Transcona Legion #7 and a proud and tireless member of the Riverside Lions Club for nearly 40 years. Ollie was a faithful member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church. On Wednesday, June 22, 2011 a Celebration of Ollie's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Riverside Lions Estates, 188 Worthington Ave., Winnipeg.
