DOROTHY JEANETTE HIEBERT (nee THIESSEN) August 23, 1923 June 11, 2011 when she passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Saviour. She was predeceased by her parents Aaron and Helen (nee Heppner) Thiessen; siblings Johnny Thiessen, and Margaret Devenney; daughter Jeanette Gusto and granddaughter Kimberley Gusto in 1993, and her husband of 67 years John W. Hiebert in 2008, also numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law over the years. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Carole (Al) Backman, BC and her son Tom (Betty BJ ) Hiebert; granddaughters Karen (Chris) McCloskey, Singapore, Erika (Fred) Ledlin, BC, Andrea (Gian) Galasso, BC; great-granddaughters Megan and Rebecca Ahnert, BC, Kalena and Alexa McClosky, Singapore and great-grandsons Rory and Owen Galasso,BC. She is also survived by siblings Harry Thiessen (Virginia Mariash), Mabel Friesen (widow of Ike Friesen), Gladys Piper (widow of Dave Piper) BC, brothers-in-law Abe (Verna) Hiebert, Winkler, Bill (Priscilla) Rempel, sisters-in-law Kay Davies, BC, Susan Leadley, AB and many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. Dorothy was born and raised in Lowe Farm where she received her education in the Kronsweide School. She was baptized as a teenager upon the confession of her faith in Jesus Christ and remained strong in that faith all her life. On May 25, 1941 she married the love of her life John Hiebert. In 1961 they bought a farm at Sanford. Dorothy worked and participated in all aspects of farming driving truck, hauling grain.as well as having very large vegetable and flower gardens. In 1983 Dorothy and John moved into the city and began their retirement years. As Dad fashioned his many wooden treasures, Dorothy applied the finishing coat as needed, ever being at Dad's side. Winter road trips took them to Tuscon, AZ and Santa Fe, N.M. where they had very special friends. Trips to Europe and Hawaii were highlights. Mom knit, crocheted, sewed, quilted, painted in oils, wrote poetry, made soap and candles. In her later years she learned to use a computer to stay in contact with family and friends. She was an avid cook specializing in Sunday lunches for the family. Her eagerness to spend time with her children and grandchildren made these special times. Mom, you did so much for us. Your memory will live on in our hearts. You have been a blessing to us. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, 465 Stafford St., with viewing prior to the service. Interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
