Date of Passing: Jun 13, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHILDA ISABELLA BELL (nee LAW) Hilda passed away peacefully on June 13, 2011, with family at her side. Widow of Harry (his beloved Hidwee); loving Mom of Allen (Linette), Wayne (Margaret) of Winnipeg, Lorraine (Mark Weisdorf) of New York and the late Ralph (formerly Caroline); Adoring Grandma of Jeff (Colleen) and Colin (Veronica), Cameron, Lisa and Kayla, Melissa (fiancée Matthew) and Alicia; sister-in-law of Hazel; dear Aunt of Joan and Dorothy. Born in London, England, on September 24, 1916, daughter of the late William Law and Mary Gilchrist Lambie, both from Glasgow, she was three months shy of her 95th birthday. Hilda had a well-lived and muchloved life. When she and her parents immigrated to Canada, they lived in Toronto until the depression started when they moved to Winnipeg for her Dad's job. She met the love of her life, Harry, who was the brother of her best friend, Hazel. They were married for 31 years until Harry's death in 1970. Hilda's main focus was her family although she did work for many years at the HSC until retired in 1981. Loving, compassionate, non-judgmental, patient and kind, she epitomized what the words Mom and Grandma meant. She loved cooking and baking and was famous for her fudge cake, butter tarts and pies as well as her Yorkshire pudding, roast beef and gravy. Hilda took special pride in her grandchildren and in her family's accomplishments. She cheered every success, birthday, graduation, wedding, Christmas and holiday. Her zest for life and positive attitude is a legacy that she has left us. Hilda loved classic movies, Jeopardy, China, history, Corrie, Grand Beach and all things Scottish. She was well-read, articulate and had an incredible memory right up until the day she passed away. She travelled to many places including Scotland and England, Hawaii, Florida, Toronto, New York and throughout Canada. She was a beauty who lived her life with much grace and without malice towards others. She was, above all, much cherished, beloved and will never be forgotten. We love you Mom and Gramma, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck! We plan to honour Hilda at a Memorial Service on September 12th, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Winnipeg Winter Club, 200 River Ave. In keeping with her wishes, she has been cremated. Following the Memorial Service she will be laid to rest at Brookside Cemetery alongside her husband Harry, son Ralph and nearby her parents, William and Mary. We would like to especially thank and acknowledge the staff at St. Joseph's Residence for their wonderful, respectful and loving care.
