GERTRUDE (HARDER) KLASSEN Gertrude died June 15, 2011, at age 87 years of complications from a stroke. She was a graduate of U of M and worked as an RN until her retirement in 1975 when she held the position of Registrar and Student Counselor at St. Boniface School of Nursing. Later that year she married John P. Klassen and after his sudden death in 1980 did volunteer work in health care in Pakistan. She returned to Canada in 1985 and continued to do volunteer work for church and community organizations until declining health required her move to Donwood Personal Care Home Her family will miss her direct manner and practical insights. An avid reader, she enjoyed discussions with friends and family. Gertrude was predeceased by her husband; parents Heinrich P. and Helena; sisters Helen and her husband Peter Loewen, Margaret; brother Ben; brother-in-law Peter Doerksen; John's son Abram and John's daughter-in-law Henrietta. She is survived by sisters Tina Doerksen, Susie (Henry) Loewen; as well as John's children, Margaret (Alfred) Kroeker, (Helen Klassen), Jake (Nettie) Klassen, John Klassen, Lillian (Henry) Regehr and their families. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Donwood Personal Care Home for their dedication and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Family Life Network; details will be available at the church. The funeral service will be held at Elmwood MB Church, 145 Henderson Highway, on June 20, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. with viewing prior to the service. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
