Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIWAN JOHN HAYDUK August 25, 1927 - June 15, 2011 Peacefully at the age of 83, Iwan John Hayduk passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on Wednesday June 15, 2011 surrounded by the loving family he deeply cherished. John will be greatly missed by his wife Elsie of 57 years; daughter Jean (Melvin); sons David and Richard; granddaughter Vanessa; and great-grandsons Ryder and Caden as well as nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Katerina; sister Olya; and brother Walter. John was born in L'vivska Oblast, in the village of Ushnia, Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1954. He began working in the gold mines of Rouyn-Noranda, QC. He then moved to Winnipeg where he met his wife Elsie, beginning his family and career as a master steelworker in and around the city, retiring in 1993. John loved to relax watching a good hockey game and enthrall those around him with his astute and legendary political musings, this will surely be missed. He also was an avid nature lover always planning the families' next trip out west, but his most fulfilling activity was the building of cottages. Throughout the summer, every weekend would be dedicated to being with his family at the cottage working on yet another project. An endearing pursuit that would never diminish from his life. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at 6E at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassion and care. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St., with viewing one half hour prior to service.
