GEORGE HRYNYK It is with great sadness that our family would like to announce the sudden passing of George Hrynyk on Sunday, June 12th, 2011, at Concordia Hospital. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years, Victoria; his son Gord (Ana) and daughter Phyllis (Larry); their grandchildren Grant, Robin, Lucas and Nathan. George was born in the RM of Springfield on May 8, 1934. He was one of three children. He grew up working on the family farm which led to the development of a strong work ethic. In 1955 George encountered two significant milestones in his life. The first was he met the love of his life, his wife Victoria, whom he remained married to up until the time of his passing. The second milestone was he started with the Canadian National Railway, eventually working his way to the position of Locomotive Engineer. George worked for the CN for 38 years, making his last run in 1993. George continued to be involved with the brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers after his retirement. He always looked forward to connecting with his colleagues to share stories and tell a few jokes. During their retirement, George and Victoria had a chance to travel the world. Visiting Hawaii, Thailand, Mexico, Cuba, Poland, the Ukraine and various places throughout the USA. George and Victoria loved attending various festivals throughout Manitoba, collecting photos of various provincial landmarks such as the World's Biggest Mosquito in Komarno, Manitoba. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren taking them for bike rides to Birds Hill Provincial Park and quizzing them on various types of locomotives and farm equipment that they would encounter during their outings together. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Concordia Hospital for the care and compassion they provided. Following George's wishes, a private service and cremation has taken place.
