HELEN ELIZABETH FRASER (BETTY) (nee TESKEY) It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our mother, Betty, at the Squamish General Hospital on Thursday, June 9, 2011. She was predeceased by her loving husband (Jack) John Alexander Finlay Fraser in 1995. Betty was born and raised in Port Arthur, ON and as a teenager, she was crowned Miss Port Arthur! At 18 years old, she moved to Winnipeg and lived there most of her life. At 19 years of age, she married Jack Fraser and raised their three children by whom she is survived: John (Leslie Ross), Bill (Winnipeg) and Cathy (Eric Prall) of Whistler, BC along with six grandchildren, her niece Carol (Gordon Bowley) of California, and great-granddaughter Haidyn, who brought her great joy. Mom was a very kind and loving person, who will be terribly missed by her family, but never forgotten. Betty loved to play bridge with the girls from Winnipeg. She was a great cook, a devoted volunteer for the Saint Agnes Hospital Guild, a member of the Winnipeg Winter Club and the St. Charles Country Club. She loved to go to The Dance Club with Dad! One of our fondest memories is of mom's remarkable ability to make the best ever cookies with multiple varieties. You knew you had touched her soul when she would gift you with a batch. Many people including her Pemberton boys (friends of her grandson Deiter) will miss her as she would often prepare them a batch or two, Oatmeal anyone? Betty moved to Pemberton, BC and was blessed in her last years to wake up every morning to the view of the Coastal Mountain Range and to the sight of hummingbirds on her deck. We would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at Lions Gate Hospital, the remarkably kind Vancouver dentist, Dr. P. H. Trestor, and the staff at the Squamish General Hospital for the amazing care she received. In the last few weeks, mom was especially touched by the loving phone calls she received from her eldest son John and grandson John (Chow) in which she heard from them how much they loved her. We were very happy to see her feel such peace before she passed into eternal light. A private family gathering has taken place with interment to follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Winnipeg later this fall. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in her name can be made to the Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation, Box 35, Whistler, BC V0N 1B8. When she shall die, Take her and cut her out in little stars, And she will make the face of heav'n so fine, That all the world will be in love with night, And pay no worship to the garish sun. - William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet'.

Betty and Jack (my father's cousin) visited Scotland in the 1970s and from then we kept annual contact though Christmas cards. Betty had poise, grace, charm and humour, and a sharp wit with a wisdom which showed her value for the important things in life: her family was a delight to her and a source of joy. So very sorry to hear of the passing of a lovely lovely lady. Condolences to the family - Posted by: Ann Welsh (distant cousin) on: Apr 13, 2012

John, Bill & Cathy. Malcolm & I were sorry to learn of your Mom's passing. She will always be special to me and I have so many wonderful memories of both her & your Dad. I'm especially glad I had the opportunity for a visit with your Mom at her condo in Wpg. while visiting a few years ago. May your special memories of her sustain you during this difficult time. Sincerely, Malcolm & Carol Lazenby - Posted by: Carol Lazenby (Friend) on: Jun 24, 2011

My deepest condolences to the Fraser Clan. Don't remember the cookies as much as those amazing T bone steaks. It was a great place to end up for dinner - knowing what you probably had waiting for you at home. My mother, being a maritimer, was pretty keen on serving Finn 'n Haddie, smoked haddock baked in milk.... Mr and Mrs Fraser always welcomed the hungry hoards with warmth and laughter. Tremendous memories - thank you! Love, Suzanne - Posted by: suzanne mcmurray (Friend) on: Jun 20, 2011
