KENNETH (KEN) OBLIK It is with great sorrow that the family of Kenneth (Ken) Oblik announces his passing on June 18, 2011 at the Palliative Care Unit, St. Boniface Hospital. Ken was predeceased by his beloved wife, Diane in 2008 and his parents, Stella and Joseph Oblik. Ken was born on February 13, 1951 at the Husband Bosworth Camp, England. He came to Canada with his family as a baby, arriving in Halifax on April 28, 1951 and then riding the train cross-country to Winnipeg. He leaves to grieve his son Mike, sister, Mary, nieces Sheila and Lisa (daughters, Alexandra and Shelly Ranville), his brother-in-law, Jim Higgins, his special friend, Jacquie East, long-time friends Sharon (Sam) Gilmour and Holly Smith, his neighbours and buddies, Mike Boulet, Dale Amadeo, Doug Huillery, his co-workers Alan and David Borger and Michael Carruthers among many others in his professional circle, Al, Les, Len and Gord and everyone else who considered Ken a friend. Ken attended General Wolfe, Daniel McIntyre and Red River Community College. After finishing R.R.C.C. he spent a few years surveying, mostly in northern Manitoba. When asked why he changed professions he said he did not care much for falling through the ice and sleeping in a tent. He was one of those fortunate people who found a job he loved. He found his niche when joining the Ladco Company eventually becoming their Manager of Land Development. He was able to use his artistic talent, computer savvy, and love of the environment in his work. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Boniface Palliative Care, 409 Tache Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6 or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank Dr. G. Borrett and the 4th floor medical staff at the Grace Hospital. We especially wish to thank the staff at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. They were caring, gentle, compassionate, and made his last days peaceful. From all of us and from Ken, we can't thank them enough. I have had a great life , Ken said. May we remember this in our time of sorrow. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.mb.ca 885-9715
