WINNIE MCINTYRE DUVENAUD August 15, 1914 - June 20, 2011 Our precious mother and grandmother Winnie died at the age of 96. She leaves to mourn and celebrate her life, her children, Marlene Tjaden, Lorraine and Chip Hand, John (Mac) Duvenaud and Leona Herzog, her grandchildren Lynda Tjaden (David Moll), Tracy Tjaden, Brenda Tjaden Lepp (Mark Lepp), Ian Hand, Erin Wright (Doran Wright), Kelly Hand (Mike Varrin), David Duvenaud, Steven Duvenaud, Alexandra Herzog and her nine great-grandchildren, Graham, Dylan, Bronwyn, John, Anna, Trace, Spencer, Gavin, and Wynne. She will be mourned by her sister-in-law Adele Duvenaud Laferriere, her nieces and nephews Louis, Claude (Gail), Joyce Lewis (Wayne), Mavis Stewart (Jim) and their families. Winnie was predeceased by her husband Louis in 1985, her son-in-law Ken Tjaden in 2000, and her brother-in-law Fernand Laferriere in 1992. Winnie is the only child of John McIntyre and Williamina Barnett McIntyre, Scottish immigrants who homesteaded in Saskatchewan. She was raised in Oxbow, SK, where she was a keen student and horsewoman. She then graduated as a R.N. from the Misericordia Hospital in 1939. She was called Big Mac by her classmates due to her ability and willingness to help. Winnie married Louis in 1942. They farmed together at Sperling for 35 years. Winnie said, I guess we had the best of all worlds, raising our family in Sperling . She gave back to her community by being a faithful friend to all providing first aid, sewing, driving and visiting. Winnie loved playing cards. The Rumoli Gang, the bowling teams, the Sperling Teddy Bear makers all filled her life with companionship and useful work. Winnie is a life member of the Legion Auxiliary and the Misericordia Nurses Alumni, and has been a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada. Winnie and Louie enjoyed several trips to France and Scotland, strengthening ties to their families. They shared Farm Forum, poker games, curling, and traveling. Winnie offered a listening ear and non-judgmental comfort to all who came into her life. She will be missed. The family is grateful for the care Winnie received at West Park Manor these last couple of years. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at Carman United Church at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 24, followed by interment at the Sperling Cemetery, and lunch at the Sperling Arena.
