Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA C. NASCIMENTO (nee CARDOSO) It is with deep sadness, that we announce, after a lengthy illness, the peaceful passing of Maria, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Misericordia Place at the age of 85 years. Left to cherish Maria's memory are her daughters, Maria do Ceu, Marie (Bob); son Tony; grandsons, John-Paul and Daniel; sisters, Ana in California, Luciana and Teresa in Ontario; brother José in Ontario as well as numerous other relatives and friends in Canada, the USA and Portugal who will also remember and miss Mom. She was predeceased in 2003 by her loving husband José; parents José and Maria, infant son José Luis, sister Aurora in the Azores; brothers Manuel, Luis and Antonio in California. Maria was born on December 29, 1925 in Faja Grande, Flores, Azores, Portugal. In 1947 she married her beloved José and in 1959 they immigrated to Winnipeg with their three children. Mom was employed at the Misericordia Hospital, Brandon's Nursing Home, and West Park Manor Personal Care Home from where she retired after 17 years of service. Mom was a dedicated wife, mother and a wonderful Avo to her grandsons. She was a loving, generous woman who had a deep and abiding faith. She had a natural mothering, caring way about her throughout her whole life. Mom was a gentle soul. Her family was the most important thing in her life and her love and support was unconditional. Mom's joy in life was having her family at home for celebrations that she would plan weeks ahead with anticipation. She was very proud to be Portuguese and loved her island home in the Azores, but she was very thankful to have made Canada her adopted home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, June 24, 2011 in St. Paul The Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2400 Portage Avenue at 1.00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Vince Herner, presiding. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to Mass. She will be laid to rest beside Dad in Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. Pallbearers will be Messrs., Tony Nascimento, John-Paul Cardoso, Daniel Russell, José Fagundes, Bob Russell and Michael Fagundes. The family is thankful to the nurses and staff of Misericordia Place, Level 2, for the kindness and respectful care provided to our mother. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Maria's memory may be made to the Misericordia Foundation, Room 161 - 99 Cornish Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1A2.
